Expo Narrow Gauge

ExpoNG is the familiar name for ‘Expo Narrow Gauge®’, the model railway exhibition dedicated to modelling narrow gauge railways in all their forms. Held annually at the end of October by the Greenwich and District Narrow Gauge Railway Society in Swanley, England, it is the premier specialist Narrow Gauge railway modelling event held in the UK and probably the biggest in Europe. It includes narrow gauge model railway layouts and models in all major scales, traders and manufacturers from the UK, Europe and the USA, modelling and prototype societies, as well as demonstrations of modelling techniques.

The Dave Brewer Memorial Challenge

For the 2012 Challenge we have chosen the theme of Pizza Layouts. Such models are roughly circular and have a continuous run of track. Sidings or loops may branch off from the main track, but are optional. The maximum diameter we have chosen is the popular narrow gauge of 60 cm (1 ft 11.5 ins).

  1. The model may use any scale and gauge combination, as long as they represent a narrow (ie less than 4 ft 8.5 ins) gauge railway.
  2. The maximum size is a circle of 60 cm diameter, but the model can be any size and shape as long as it fits within a 60 cm diameter circular envelope.
  3. If the overall height, including lighting, is likely to exceed 60 cm, please contact us beforehand, as we do need to ensure the model can be safely exhibited.
  4. The pizza should contain one continuous run, but other tracks may be added if the builder wishes.
  5. The pizza layout should be a working model and trains must be seen to operate.
  6. The builder will need to provide their own power supply and controller and, if used, lighting. These do not have to fit within the 60 cm circle.
  7. To be eligible, completed entry forms must be received by 31 August 2012.
  8. To be eligible, models must be presented for judging at Expo Narrow Gauge 2012.
  9. A prize, including one year’s subscription to Narrow Gauge World, will be awarded to the winner.
  10. The judges’ decision is final.

Entry forms will be available for download from this site at a later date.

Many excellent examples of pizza layouts can be found on the late Carl Arendt’s Small and Micro Layout website at http://www.carendt.com.
